*meow*

“You can save by staring into a cat’s eyes,” he said suddenly.

I turned and faced him.

“…what?” I asked.

We were walking back to the hostel after dinner, when he suddenly blurted out that sentence.

“What do you mean, save?” I continued.

“Save. You know, like saving and loading a game?”

He probably have been playing too much RPGs recently.

“Uh huh, sure, and you can get money from them as well.” I replied sarcastically.

“Okay, look over there,” he pointed.

There was a stray cat on the grass next to our sidewalk up front, and it was looking at us.

“Now, try staring into its eyes.”

I looked at the cat.

The cat stared back.

Nothing.

“This is retarded,” I said, and continued walking.

After crossing the road, I turned back to see him still staring at the cat.

“Don’t be lame, come on,” I tried to persuade him to continue walking.

After staring for a long while, he turned and shouted, “Alright, I’m done!”

Seriously, stay off those RPG games for a while. It’ll do you good.

He rushed towards me quickly, without checking for traffic first.

…Oh lord, what had just happened?

A speeding taxi had collided head on with him, sending him flying a distance.

I covered my face in shock as his lifeless body hit the ground.

Realizing what just happened, I started to run towards him-

I found myself back on the opposite side of the road.

…wait, what?

He made his way across the same road after waiting for a taxi to pass by.

“…what….what was that just now?” I whimpered softly.

“I resumed from my save point,” he said matter-of-factly.

“…That means all that stuff about staring into a cat’s eyes were…?” I asked slowly.

“Well, maybe not for you, I guess,” he replied.

“Does that mean you’ll never die in an accident or anything like that?” I asked.

He nodded.

“Well, I’m the main character after all!” He laughed, and started running down the pavement.
